Pile Driving for Docks & Marine Structures
Pile driving is the foundation of most fixed dock and pier construction. Heavy Metal Dock & Marine Construction handles pile driving in-house using purpose-built marine equipment — which means we can reach difficult waterfront sites and drive pilings as part of a complete dock construction project rather than as a separate subcontracted scope.
Why Pile Driving Matters
A fixed dock is only as solid as its pilings. Driven pilings anchor the dock structure to the lake or river bottom, providing the vertical and lateral support the dock needs to hold up under load, wave action and seasonal water-level changes. The depth, spacing and material of the pilings are determined by the bottom conditions, the size of the dock and the forces the structure will be subjected to over its life.
Our Pile Driving Capability
Heavy Metal operates purpose-built marine equipment including work barges we fabricate ourselves. This gives us the ability to position equipment precisely on the water and work at sites that are not accessible by land-based machinery. We handle pile driving as part of complete dock construction projects and as a standalone scope when existing structures need new or replacement pilings.
Piling Materials
The right piling material depends on the application, the water conditions and the expected service life. Common options include treated wood, steel pipe and composite materials. We can discuss the tradeoffs for your specific site and project.
Part of a Complete Project
Because Heavy Metal handles both pile driving and dock construction, we can coordinate the full scope of work under one contract. Pile driving, dock framing, decking, gangways and boat lift installation are all managed by the same crew rather than handed off between multiple contractors.
